Joe Biden has been in the political arena for more than five decades. He has served as a senator and was the Vice President of the United States for two terms under President Barack Obama's administration. Early Life and Career
Joe Biden was born on November 20th, 1942, in Scranton, Pennsylvania. His father was a used-car salesman while his mother worked as a homemaker. Biden attended the University of Delaware and Syracuse Law School. After completing his education, he worked as an attorney in Delaware and was elected to the New Castle County Council in 1970.
In 1972, at the age of 29, Joe Biden ran for the United States Senate against Republican incumbent J. Caleb Boggs. Biden won the election and became one of the youngest people ever elected to the Senate. Tragically, just weeks after he was elected, his wife, Neilia, and infant daughter, Naomi, were killed in a car accident while Christmas shopping. His two sons, Beau and Hunter, were also in the car and survived but were severely injured. Biden was sworn into office from his sons' hospital room.
Senatorial Career
During his time in the Senate, Joe Biden established himself as an expert on foreign policy and chaired the Foreign Relations Committee for several years. He was also a champion of civil rights and authored the Violence Against Women Act, which provided federal resources to combat domestic violence.
